Reception following program
A native of North Little Rock, Arkansas, André Duvall holds the Master of Music degree with a double concentration in Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy from the University of Memphis, where he studied with Professor Joan Gilbert. He holds the Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance with a minor in organ from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, where he studied piano with Dr. Ann Rye and organ with Dr. Kathleen Scheide. In 2008, Mr. Duvall won the Memphis Beethoven Club Young Artists piano competition, and was the winner of the University of Memphis concerto competition in piano in 2009, performing with the U of M Symphony Orchestra. As a four-time winner of the annual President's Concert Competition at Henderson State, Mr. Duvall has performed as soloist with members of the Arkansas Symphony. Mr. Duvall teaches class piano and accompanies the Schola Cantorum vocal ensemble at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He is pursuing doctoral studies at UNC Greensboro with Dr. Andrew Willis, where he received the Charles B. Hayes Fellowship. During his years in Memphis, Mr. Duvall taught class piano at the University of Memphis, operated a small, private piano studio, and was active as a freelance accompanist and church organist. The University of Memphis Graduate School and School of Music selected Mr. Duvall as a recipient of the 2010 Graduate Assistant Meritorious Teaching Award, a university-wide award given annually to two teaching assistants for innovation and dedication in the classroom. Mr. Duvall is a member of the Memphis Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
